Issam Gharzeddine, President
As the President of the American Medical Student Association at College of the Canyons, Issam is responsible for scheduling club events, cooperating with the rest of the officers to make sure all club duties are being met and lead this group of individuals in organizing this year's Health Symposium. He is a Biochemistry major at COC, and is chasing his goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon. on campus, Issam is currently a Maths Tutor, and used to be the director of Health Issues in ASG. Off campus, he also tutors high school high school students, and volunteers in the Emergency Room at Henry Mayo Hospital.
Norma Espinoza, Vice President
As vice president, Norma is responsible for organizing events, networking, and making sure everything runs fluently. Norma received her bachelors’ degree in Psychology from UCLA. She is back at COC finishing pre-requisites for Medical School. Norma is passionate about health psychology and autism research. She is also passionate about helping others achieve their educational goals. She has spent the last two years volunteering at the UCLA hospital and has enjoyed the pediatrics and emergency room department most. Some of her favorite activities are going to improv shows and eating yummy food. She aspires to provide high quality health care to people of all economic backgrounds.
Vanessa Salazar, Secretary
As the Secretary of the American Medical Student Association at College of the Canyons, Vanessa is in charge of determining students’ membership eligibility, updates on events as well as keeping members updated with their points and status throughout the semester. Vanessa is a first generation college student who is passionate about science and healthcare. She is a biochemistry major interested in becoming a physician or PA. She also has a passion for reading and plant based cooking.
Efrain Gonzalez, Public Affairs Liaison
Efrain Gonzalez is our Public Affairs Liaison for AMSA. This is his second year here at College of the Canyons, and second year for AMSA. As public affairs, he is the club’s ICC representative and maintains communication and promotion of AMSA among the COC student body. He is a Pre-Med student hoping to get an undergrad in Psychobiology. He works at the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement program (MESA). His hobbies are riding bikes, running, hiking, and having fun with friends. His overall passion is helping others as he volunteers at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and is a COPE Health Scholar at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital.
Vera Alfred, Director of Events
As a Pre-Med student I tend to take everything on it's on pace. One day at a time,trusting that being a doctor is a choice that you take by accepting your journey and your willingness to give all you can do to reach out to people. As the director of events I coordinate with the school to set up events and fundraisers on campus and outside campus, as well as workshops, and any events that are healthcare related. For example medical conferences and volunteer opportunities. So if you have any questions about events and funderaisers or any volunteer opportunity please feel free to ask and get envolved
Bryan Galdamez, Public Relations
Going on his second year as both a College of the Canyons student and an active member of AMSA, Bryan was elected to the position of public relations. It is his responsibility to manage the volunteering, shadowing, and internship opportunities, as well as certain aspects of the club's social media. He is a Pre-Med student at COC hoping to get a B.S. in Neuroscience. His hobbies are exercising, eating, going to church, and hanging out with friends and family. He is extremely passionate about kids and his main goal is to become a Pediatrician and work for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles(CHLA).
Fadi Alsarhan, Treasurer
Fadi is currently in his third and final year at College of the Canyons. He is fascinated by chemistry and everything that relates to it, and his goal is to get a B.S. in chemistry. His ultimate wish is to attend the UCLA school of medicine and become a pathologist or immunologist. Fadi works as a tutor here at College of the Canyons in the TLC and MESA. His favorite hobby is following sports, especially soccer, basketball, and football. He also enjoys listening to music and spending time with friends and family. Come by and say hello!
Summer Brashaer, AOC Representative
Summer Brashear is Academy of the Canyon's AMSA representative. It is her responsibility to increase communication with the AOC AMSA community. She is a current premed psychplogy major with an affinity for social psychology. Her goal is to pursue psychiatry once in her residency years of medical school at (hopefully) USC. In her freetime, Summer enjoys baking and crocheting. She is looking forward to a great year!
